Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil, was elected in 2023. He is the 39th president. He was also the 35th president from 2003 to 2011. He is considered one of Brazil’s most popular politicians. He has an approval rating of 80%. He accomplished this by helping over 20 million citizens escape poverty. He also reduced the national debt through foreign policy and global trade negotiations. This resulted in a lack of inflation in Brazil. Despite his popularity, some questionable actions were taken against him in 2017. He was convicted of money laundering and corruption in “operation car wash.” This conviction resulted in almost 2 years in prison. The supreme court nullified his convictions in 2021 due to serious biases. He was then allowed to run for president again. He is now the oldest president to take office in Brazil.
